The most popular and direct approach to Mount Marcy begins near Heart Lake at the High Peaks Information Center. The route passes Marcy Dam and continues into increasingly rugged High Peaks terrain before reaching the exposed summit.

High Peaks rules

Day groups are limited to 15 people.

Overnight groups are limited to 8 people.

Campfires are prohibited in the Eastern High Peaks.

Bear-resistant canisters are required for overnight users in the Eastern High Peaks.

Camping is not allowed on summits.

Snowshoes or skis are required when snow depth reaches 8 inches.
