Mount Frissell Trail via Round Mountain
From East Street / Mount Washington Road, follow the Mount Frissell Trail over Round Mountain, descend into the intervening hollow, and climb Mount Frissell. Continue beyond its Massachusetts summit to the Connecticut state-line highpoint on the south slope. Reaching the mountain summit alone does not reach Connecticut’s highpoint.
Trailhead
Mount Frissell trailhead near the state line on East Street / Mount Washington Road
Typical hazards: Steep rock scrambles and repeated climbing on the return. Wet rock, leaf cover, snow, and ice can make footing difficult.
Carry the forest trail map and identify the slope highpoint separately from the summit and tri-state marker. No mileage is given here because routes ending at those different destinations are easily confused.
Berkshires Outside: Mount Frissell trailhead and terrainAccess
East Street / Mount Washington Road
The direct trailhead is reached by a winding gravel road with small dirt parking areas. Confirm the approach with the forest before traveling, especially in winter; a mapped road is not assurance of through-access.
Use designated trailhead parking and obey posted hours. Keep the road and gates clear; confirm overnight parking separately if planning a longer trip.
