Monument parking to the summit grounds
When the park road is open, drive to the monument parking lot and walk uphill to the summit grounds. A longer hiking route is optional; driving to the lot does not put you at the monument itself.

Typical hazards: The summit is exposed to wind and thunderstorms. Ice can make the uphill walk and steps hazardous in cold weather.
Visiting the highpoint grounds and climbing inside the monument are separate activities. Interior access is seasonal and depends on staffing and weather; it is not required to reach the state highpoint.

Park gates, road access, and monument hours
Enter High Point State Park from Route 23 and follow the main park road toward the monument. Winter road conditions can prevent vehicle access to the upper lot; confirm the permitted walking approach and parking with the park when that road is closed.
Use the monument visitor lot when accessible. Winter-use and Route 23 lots serve different approaches and should not be mistaken for parking immediately below the summit.

State park rules
Carry out all trash and keep pets under control on a leash no longer than six feet; clean up after them.
Alcohol and recreational drone flights are prohibited. Follow posted closures and park rules for the monument grounds.

Check current park status, the weather forecast, and upper-road access before traveling. An open park does not necessarily mean the monument interior or its access road is open.
